Hey, thanks for stopping by! I'm often surprised where and how some of these touchpoints to the Grand Story pop up! I've heard of these elements of Pride&Prejudice, perhaps in a sermon illustration, but I've never read or seen the story itself - might have to check it out some time :-) Thanks again!

Thanks for following Lessons by Heart - it led me here. :)

The Grand Story is everywhere. I find it in many movies...not necessarily intended by the writers, producers, or directors, but there nonetheless.

Matrix: red/blue pills Christianity: all in or I want to pretend the spirit realm doesn't exist. The woman in red is a perfect picture of sin...enticing, alluring. Turn your back on it though, and when you turn back around it's there with a gun, ready to kill you.

Pride & Prejudice: Someone (godlike) messing up Elizabeth and her sister's life. Suddenly he announces his undying love (are you nuts? That's love?), then continues to seemingly mess things up. At the end, you see it all come together for the good of those involved, and the final scene is Elizabeth being given a new name by her husband.

His story is being told everywhere. It's amazing.
\o/

I enjoyed these posts. One comment on this paragraph though...

"But this is a man who also chooses money over compassion in the face of a dying man, hunts money figuring it’s already tainted, puts his own life and worse – his wife’s life – at risk. He joins this cycle of violence because of his own greed but we end up hoping that somehow he will ‘get away with it’?"

Llewelyn doesn't choose money over compassion. Like he says, he "ain't got no agua", so there's nothing he can do to help the dying man when he first meets him. In fact, he arguably joins the cycle of violence because of his compassion - since taking the Mexican some water results in his licence plates being stolen and whereabouts exposed. (I know the money also had a transponder in it, which Llewelyn didn't know about, but it didn't seem like that thing had much range to it.)

Also, I don't think Llewelyn takes the money out of greed. Actually, I think he does so out of an opportunistic desire to become something more than ordinary. As the mariachis (translated) song says, "You wanted to fly without wings. You wanted to play with fire."
