This year marked both the 30th anniversary of the release of Back to the Future, and last week marked the date Doc Brown and Marty McFly arrived in the future, to prevent Marty McFly’s boy getting mixed up with the Tannin gang and landing himself in prison.

The media coverage and interest from all spheres is a tribute to the film’s enduring popularity, both as fun science fiction adventures, and stories connecting to our hopes and dreams. We want to know the future will be great; that things will work out, there will be a way to make things right despite our choices or our family. The film series is a powerful reminder of the way our choices can have consequences long after we make them.

“Your future is whatever you make it. So make it a good one.”

In honor of Back to the Future, here’s a collection of some of the best stories emerging from the celebrations:

1. Toyota Mirai commercial
Christopher Lloyd and Michael J Fox catch up over coffee to discuss the predictions, It’s also a clever ad for the launch of the Toyota Mirai hydrogen fuel cell vehicle, which derives its fuel from waste, just as Mr Fusion uses fuel to generate the required 1.21 gigawatts to travel through time:

2. Jimmy Kimmel Live
Then there was Michael J Fox & Christopher Lloyd on Jimmy Kimmel Live, as their original characters, discuss the state of the world in 2015.

3. USAToday front page

According to Yahoo! News, the front page also featured fake stories on cholesterol curing cancer, and people injured while rehydrating a pizza.

4. Not what he expected when he started planning it
From Facebook Stories, one fan’s party grew from a small event at home to a street party involving the local cinema:

More than 1 million people joined over 6,500 Facebook Events to celebrate Back to the Future Day. Brian Skywalker of Bellingham, Wash., was one of them. He created an event on Facebook for some friends to come over on Oct. 21, 2015, the date Marty McFly travels to in the Back to the Future Trilogy. When more and more friends joined, he decided to take the party to a bigger venue. After hearing Brian’s idea, the Pickford Film Center organized a screening and ’80s block party — DeLorean and all. The event raised $2,100 for a local dance center that holds therapeutic dance classes for people with Parkinson’s disease.

And finally…
It’s not a plot without a villain and the BTTF villians – Biff, Griff and Buford “Mad Dog” Tannen, played by Tom Wilson gave us so many memorable lines and moments. Unfortunately, he was the only one I didn’t really see in the coverage. Maybe he was sick of people asking him about Back to the Future:
